Hans Fallada is the pen name of Rudolf Ditzen, a German writer of the first half of the 20th century who lived from 1893 to 1947. He is best known for Little Man, What Now? (1932) and Every Man Dies Alone, and his work belongs mostly to New Objectivity, a style of precise, unsentimental reportage that values 'the fact' above feeling. He also wrote The Drinker, and he was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1936 and 1939.
