Harold Bloom was an American literary critic and the Sterling Professor of humanities at Yale University, and over a career that began with his first book in 1959 he wrote more than fifty books. Most of them were works of literary criticism, and he was a defender of the traditional Western canon against what he called the School of Resentment. His titles include How to Read and Why, a guide to poetry, fiction, drama and short stories, and a Modern Critical Interpretations volume on Cat's Cradle.
