Harper Lee was an American novelist best known for To Kill a Mockingbird, published in 1960, which won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize. Its plot and characters draw loosely on her observations of family and neighbors in Monroeville, Alabama, and the book views racial attitudes in the Deep South of the 1930s through the eyes of two children. Go Set a Watchman, an earlier draft of that story set at a later date, came out in 2015 as a sequel, and she had helped her close friend Truman Capote with his research for In Cold Blood. Lee died in 2016.
