Harry Crews was an American novelist, short story writer, and essayist who often set his violent, grotesque characters in the Deep South. His novel A Feast of Snakes follows Joe Lon Mackey through the rural South and on to a rattlesnake roundup, and he also wrote The Gospel Singer. Crews was born in 1935 and died in 2012.
