Henry Adams was an American historian, journalist, and author from the Adams political family, which was descended from two U.S. presidents. In his lifetime he was best known for The History of the United States of America 1801–1817, a nine-volume work, and his memoir The Education of Henry Adams, published after his death, won the Pulitzer Prize. He also wrote the novel Democracy, set in Washington during the Gilded Age. He died in 1918, and his influence on how American history is studied has lasted.
