Imbolo Mbue is a Cameroonian-American novelist and short story writer, born in 1981 and based in New York City. Her debut novel, Behold the Dreamers (2016), won the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction and the Blue Metropolis Words to Change Prize, and draws on the experience of immigrants, including her own. Her novel How Beautiful We Were is set in a fictional African village where an American oil company's practices cause severe environmental damage, and the villagers fight back over decades.
