Isaac Bashevis Singer

Isaac Bashevis Singer was a Polish-born Jewish American novelist, short-story writer, and memoirist who wrote in Yiddish and translated his own work into English. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1978 and won two U.S. National Book Awards: one in children's literature for the memoir A Day of Pleasure, and one for fiction in 1974 for A Crown of Feathers and Other Stories. His novel King of the Fields follows a devout man who keeps his faith under a cruel ruler, and Yentl the Yeshiva Boy and Love and Exile are also among his books.
