Isabel Wilkerson is an American journalist best known for The Warmth of Other Suns (2010), her account of the Great Migration of African Americans to northern and western cities in the twentieth century, and Caste (2020), which describes the racial hierarchy in the United States as a caste system. She was the first African-American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for journalism, and earlier served as Chicago bureau chief of The New York Times. Both of her books became best-sellers, and she has taught at Princeton, Emory, Northwestern and Boston University.
