J.D. Salinger was an American writer best known for his 1951 novel The Catcher in the Rye, which follows a disillusioned teenager through a few days in New York. He followed it with the short story collection Nine Stories (1953), Franny and Zooey (1961), and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour (1963), a pair of novellas. His last published work, the novella Hapworth 16, 1924, appeared in The New Yorker in 1965, and he died in 2010.
