Jack London, born John Griffith Chaney in 1876, was an American novelist, journalist and social activist who died in 1916. He is best known for The Call of the Wild and White Fang, both set in Alaska and the Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush, along with short stories such as "To Build a Fire" and "Love of Life." His books also take up socialism and workers' rights, including the dystopian novel The Iron Heel, and he wrote about the South Pacific in stories like "The Pearls of Parlay."
