James Bradley was an American author of historical non-fiction about the Pacific theater of World War II. His father, John Bradley, was involved in the first raising of the American flag atop Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima in February 1945, and that moment shaped much of his work. He wrote Flags of Our Fathers with Ron Powers, an account of the photograph and the men in it, and Flyboys: A True Story of Courage, a military history. Bradley was born in 1954 and died in 2026.
