Jennifer Worth

Jennifer Worth was a British memoirist, nurse and midwife, born Jennifer Lee, best known for the trilogy Call the Midwife (2002), Shadows of the Workhouse (2005) and Farewell to The East End (2009). She drew on the years she spent working in London's poverty-stricken East End during the 1950s, where she saw hardship up close. After leaving nursing she retrained as a musician, and her books later became the basis for the BBC One television series Call the Midwife. She died in 2011.
