Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a German polymath, widely regarded as the most influential writer in the German language, who also wrote plays, poetry and scientific treatises. He was best known for Faust, a two-part drama about a scholar chasing knowledge and power at any cost, and for The Sorrows of Young Werther, his first novel. His other novels include Elective Affinities and Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship, the first in a series. He died in 1832.
