John Galsworthy was an English novelist and playwright, best known for The Forsyte Saga, a story of three generations of a wealthy family that drew partly on his own. He also wrote the later trilogies A Modern Comedy and End of the Chapter, and his plays often took up social causes such as workers' rights and prison reform. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1932, and he died in 1933, after which his novels were frequently reissued.
