John McPhee is an American author considered one of the pioneers of creative nonfiction. He was a four-time Pulitzer Prize finalist in General Nonfiction and won the prize in 1999 for Annals of the Former World, a five-book work on the science of the earth. His other books include Oranges, a set of essays and travel writing, Draft No. 4, on the craft of nonfiction, and The Founding Fish, a work of nature writing. Since 1974 he has been the Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton University.
