Kathryn Stockett is an American novelist born in 1969, best known for The Help, her 2009 debut novel about African-American maids working in white households in Jackson, Mississippi, during the 1960s. She also wrote The Calamity Club, a novel set in Oxford, Mississippi, in the summer of 1933, where a group of women with tangled lives face the hardships of the Great Depression.
