Kathy Acker was an American experimental novelist, poet, playwright, essayist, and critic who also worked as a performance artist. Her writing incorporates pastiche and the cut-up technique, scrambling passages and sentences, and she described it as part of the post-nouveau roman European tradition. Her books include Blood and Guts in High School, which deals with childhood trauma, sexuality, and power, and New York City in 1979. She died in 1997.
