Kevin Powers is an American fiction writer and poet who is also an Iraq War veteran. His novels include The Yellow Birds, a war novel, and Children of the Wild, a historical novel set in 1917 Virginia, where a mountain valley town is pulled into World War I. Both books take up war and the people it changes, with the second moving the story back to the home front and a family's quiet hopes.
