Khushwant Singh was an Indian author best known for Train to Pakistan, a 1956 novel drawn from his experience of the 1947 Partition of India, later made into a 1998 film. Alongside his writing he worked as a lawyer, diplomat, journalist and Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. His other novel, The Company of Women, is a witty satire about a Delhi businessman whose orderly life is unsettled by the women around him. Singh is remembered for his humour, sarcasm and secular outlook.
