Lawrence Hill is a Canadian novelist, essayist, and memoirist, best known for The Book of Negroes, his 2007 novel about the Black Loyalists resettled in Nova Scotia after the American Revolutionary War. The book was adapted into a television mini-series in 2015. He also wrote the 2001 memoir Black Berry, Sweet Juice, about being Black and white in Canada, and Someone Knows My Name, a novel that follows Aminata Diallo from West Africa through the slave trade and the fight for freedom during the Revolutionary War.
