Lawrence Lessig is an American legal scholar and political activist who writes about how copyright and technology law shape creativity. He is best known for Free Culture, which argues for looser copyright limits and a more open cultural commons, and for Code: And Other Laws of Cyberspace, a collection of essays on law and the internet. Lessig is the Roy L. Furman Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and a founder of Creative Commons. He also ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 before withdrawing ahead of the primaries.
