Ludmila Ulitskaya is a Russian novelist and short-story writer, born in 1943, whose books include The Big Green Tent and The Kukotsky Enigma. Her 2006 novel Daniel Stein, Interpreter follows a Holocaust survivor who later turns to Catholic faith, and it asks whether Judaism, Christianity and Islam can be reconciled. In 2014 she received the Austrian State Prize for European Literature, and in 2012 she won the Park Kyong-ni Prize.
