The writing under the name Mao Zedong is political nonfiction in essay form. Combat Liberalism is a direct, teaching-minded piece on how staying quiet, going easy on friends, and brushing off criticism weaken a revolutionary organization, and it argues for open debate, self-criticism, and shared discipline. Oppose Book Worship is a second essay in political science.
