Margaret Wise Brown was an American writer of children's books, best known for Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny, both illustrated by Clement Hurd. Born in Brooklyn, she began writing for children while teaching at the Bank Street Experimental School, and she also wrote under other names, including Golden MacDonald and Timothy Hay. She died in 1952 at 42 after an operation while on vacation in France, and many of her stories have been reprinted since.
