Matt Ridley is a British science writer, journalist and businessman who writes on science, the environment and economics, and has been a regular contributor to The Times. He is best known for popular science books, including Genome, subtitled The Autobiography of a Species in 23 Chapters, and The Red Queen, which looks at sex and human nature. From 2004 to 2007 he chaired the bank Northern Rock, which suffered the first run on a British bank in 130 years before it was nationalised.
