Maurice Druon

Maurice Druon was a French novelist and a member of the Académie Française, where he served as Perpetual Secretary from 1985 to 1999. He was best known for The Accursed Kings, a series of historical novels set in fourteenth-century France that follow the Capetian dynasty, beginning with The Iron King. The three volumes trace court intrigue, royal ambition and betrayal as the crown is put at risk. Druon died in 2009.
