Max Frisch was a Swiss playwright and novelist, born in 1911 and died in 1991. His work focused on identity, responsibility and morality, and irony runs through much of his postwar writing. His novels include Homo Faber, Stiller, Montauk and Man in the Holocene, and Frisch was one of the founders of Gruppe Olten. He received the Jerusalem Prize in 1965.
