Mieko Kawakami

Mieko Kawakami is a Japanese writer and poet, best known for Breasts and Eggs, a 2019 novel that expands and reworks her 2008 novella Chichi to Ran. Kawakami's fiction often centers on women and children, and it weighs gender, class and ethics in modern society in a grounded, slice-of-life style. Heaven and All the Lovers in the Night came before Sisters in Yellow, a 2023 novel and Kawakami's first since Breasts and Eggs. Kawakami won the 2007 Akutagawa Prize for Chichi to Ran.
