Milton Hatoum

Milton Hatoum is a Brazilian novelist, translator and professor, born in Manaus in 1952 to a family of Lebanese descent. He is best known for Tale of a Certain Orient, The Brothers and Ashes of the Amazon, the last set in Brazil's interior during a long rebellion. He has won Brazil's Jabuti Prize for best novel three times, and his books often portray broken families and the military regime of 1964 to 1985. He studied comparative literature in Paris.
