Nevil Shute

Nevil Shute was the pen name of Nevil Shute Norway (1899–1960), an English aeronautical engineer who spent his later years in Australia. He used the shorter name on his novels to protect his engineering career from doubts about his seriousness and from unwanted publicity. His novels included A Town Like Alice, a historical war novel, and On the Beach, a science fiction story.
