Nikole Hannah-Jones is an American investigative journalist known for her reporting on racial discrimination in American schools and for The 1619 Project, which won her the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Her books carry the project's name, including The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story, The 1619 Project: Born on the Water, and The 1619 Project: A Visual Experience. Hannah-Jones has been a staff writer at The New York Times Magazine since 2015, received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2017, and serves as the inaugural Knight Chair in Race and Journalism at Howard University, where she founded the Center for Journalism and Democracy.
