Norbert Wiener

Norbert Wiener (1894–1964) was an American mathematician, computer scientist, and philosopher who taught mathematics at MIT. He was considered the originator of cybernetics, the study of communication and control in living things and machines, and his work shaped thinkers from John von Neumann to Claude Shannon. His books include The Human Use of Human Beings: Cybernetics and Society and God & Golem, Inc., which asks what automated machines might mean for ideas of God, creation, and human responsibility.
