Orson Scott Card is an American writer best known for science fiction, starting with Ender's Game (1985), in which a gifted boy is trained to lead humanity's fight against an alien invasion. He wrote its sequel, Speaker for the Dead (1986), and the two books won both the Hugo and Nebula awards, making him the only author to take both prizes in consecutive years. His other long-running work is The Tales of Alvin Maker, a fantasy series, and he has also written historical fiction and nonfiction.
