P. G. Wodehouse (1881–1975) was an English humorist best known for the Jeeves and Wooster novels, with Bertie Wooster and his valet Jeeves at the center, along with Psmith and the Blandings Castle stories of Lord Emsworth and his pigs. Born in Guildford, he spent much of his life in France and the United States, yet he set most of his fiction in pre-war English upper-class society. He also wrote Broadway musical comedies with Guy Bolton and Jerome Kern, and his books remain widely read.
