Patrick Chamoiseau is a French author from Martinique, best known for Texaco, which won the Prix Goncourt in 1992, and for his part in the créolité movement. His writing moves across novels, essays, children's books, screenplays, theatre and comics. Among the books under his name are Chronicle of the Seven Sorrows, a novel set in a Fort-de-France market, along with Creole Folktales, School Days and Slave Old Man.
