Perumal Murugan, born in 1966, is an Indian writer, scholar and literary chronicler who writes in Tamil. His novels include Seasons of the Palm, shortlisted for the Kiriyama Prize in 2005, along with One Part Woman, Pyre and Fire Bird, a novel about loss and the idea of home. He also taught Tamil as a professor at the Government Arts College in Salem Attur and Namakkal, and has written short stories, poetry and non-fiction alongside his fiction.
