Peter Benchley

Peter Benchley (1940–2006) was an American author best known for the novel Jaws, a thriller about a great white shark that terrorizes a summer seaside island. He also co-wrote the film adaptation with Carl Gottlieb, and several of his other works, including The Island and The Deep, were filmed as well. Later in life he regretted how his shark stories fed public fear, and he became an advocate for marine conservation.
