Peter Kropotkin was a Russian anarchist political philosopher and geographer, best known for his support of anarchist communism. Born into an aristocratic family, he served as an officer in Siberia and joined geological expeditions before his activism led to imprisonment and escape. He spent much of his life in exile in Switzerland, France, and England, and wrote on anarchism and geography. His best-known books include The Conquest of Bread, which argues for decentralized communities built on voluntary cooperation, and Mutual Aid: A Factor of Evolution.
