Plato was an ancient Greek philosopher of Classical Athens, who lived from about 428 to 347 BC and is widely counted as the foundational thinker of the Western philosophical tradition. He was an innovator of the literary dialogue and founded the Academy in Athens, where he taught, and his Theory of Forms remains his most famous contribution. Among the works on the shelf are The Republic, a dialogue on justice and the ideal state, The Symposium, and Phaedo.
