Ralph Abraham was an American mathematician who joined the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1968 and later became professor emeritus of mathematics there. He wrote on chaos and dynamical systems, with the four-part Dynamics, the Geometry of Behavior series and Chaos in Discrete Dynamical Systems, a visual introduction in two dimensions. His other books include Foundations of Mechanics, written with Jerrold E. Marsden, and Chaos, Gaia, Eros, which looks at history through three streams. Abraham died in 2024.
