Richard Dawkins is a British evolutionary biologist and zoologist who writes popular science, best known for The Selfish Gene (1976), which set out the gene-centred view of evolution and introduced the word meme. His other books on evolution include The Blind Watchmaker (1986) and Climbing Mount Improbable (1996), and The God Delusion (2006) makes the case for atheism. From 1995 to 2008 he held the Simonyi Professorship for the Public Understanding of Science, and he is an emeritus fellow of New College, Oxford.
