Richard Flanagan is an Australian writer born in 1961 who is best known for The Narrow Road to the Deep North, which won the 2014 Man Booker Prize. His other fiction includes Death of a River Guide, and he has also worked as a film director and screenwriter. Question 7 took the 2024 Baillie Gifford Prize for non-fiction, making Flanagan the first writer to win both of Britain's major fiction and non-fiction prizes. The Economist has called him the finest Australian novelist of his generation.
