Richard Marsh was the pen name of Richard Bernard Heldmann, an English writer who lived from 1857 to 1915. He is best known for The Beetle, a supernatural thriller published in 1897, the same year as Dracula, and he wrote nearly eighty volumes of fiction across horror, crime, romance and humour. Early on he had published school and sea stories under his own name, and his grandson Robert Aickman went on to write strange stories of his own.
