Richard Powers is an American novelist whose books examine what modern science and technology do to people and the world they live in. His novel The Echo Maker won the 2006 National Book Award for Fiction, and The Overstory, a novel about people whose lives become tangled with trees, won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Other titles include Galatea 2.2, Orfeo and Bewilderment, and he has also received a MacArthur Fellowship and taught at the University of Illinois and Stanford University.
