Richard Yates was an American fiction writer, born in 1926, identified with the mid-century "Age of Anxiety." He is best known for Revolutionary Road, his first novel, a finalist for the 1962 National Book Award, and for Eleven Kinds of Loneliness, his first short story collection, which drew comparisons to James Joyce. His other books include The Easter Parade. Yates died in 1992, and interest in his work revived somewhat in the years after.
