Robert W. Chambers (1865–1933) was an American artist and fiction writer who wrote a great variety of novels, but he is best known for The King in Yellow, a 1895 book of short stories. Its supernatural horror centers on a forbidden play that drives its readers to madness. Chambers also published The King in Yellow and Other Horror Stories, which carries the same gothic and supernatural horror into a wider set of tales.
