Rosario Castellanos

Rosario Castellanos (1925–1974) was a Mexican poet and author whose fiction often returns to her home state of Chiapas. Her work includes Balún-Canán, which traces the tension between white and Chontal Indigenous worlds, and The Nine Guardians, a work of historical fiction. Her nonfiction on cultural and gender oppression influenced Mexican feminist theory and cultural studies, and she was appointed ambassador to Israel in 1971 before her death in Tel Aviv.
