Ross Macdonald

Ross Macdonald was the pen name of Kenneth Millar, an American-Canadian writer of crime fiction best known for his hardboiled novels about Lew Archer, a private detective working in Southern California. The Archer books include The Drowning Pool, The Galton Case, The Barbarous Coast and The Far Side of the Dollar, and academics have studied their psychological depth and sense of place since the 1970s. Millar was raised in Ontario before settling in California, where he died in 1983.
