Rudolph Fisher was an American physician who also wrote novels and short stories, and his books include The Conjure-Man Dies, a detective story in which a Harlem murder investigation draws on local superstition, and The Walls of Jericho, a novel about racial tension in the same neighborhood. Fisher practiced medicine and served as superintendent of a Harlem hospital while he wrote, and he died in 1934 at the age of 37.
