Rudyard Kipling was an English journalist, novelist, poet and short-story writer, born in British India, which inspired much of his work. He was best known for The Jungle Book and his poems, including Gunga Din, and his fiction includes Kim (1901) and the Just So Stories (1902). He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1907, the first English-language writer to receive it, and he died in 1936.
